Last fall, UNC Asheville and the Center for Diversity Education hosted the exhibit Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War at Ramsey Library in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
One of the outcomes of that event, the Buncombe County Slave Deeds Exhibit,  is now on view at the Register of Deeds office at 35 Woodfin St. This is the first public display of slave records, including deeds and last wills and testaments, on Buncombe County property.

As a part of that project, Buncombe County has created an excellent and moving video which includes the comments of UNC Asheville visiting history professor Dr. Darin Waters and other local political and social leaders.
