Introduction

On Monday September 12, 1927, eighty-five students enrolled at the new Buncombe County Junior College, in Biltmore, NC. Over the subsequent ninety years the college would undergo several changes in both name and location, and evolve into UNC Asheville.

If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants – Sir Isaac Newton
